Du Quoin Garden Club to install arbor at downtown minipark

The Du Quoin Garden Club is the Illinois recipient of the 2022-2023 National Garden Clubs Plant America Community Projects Grant. The Plant America grant is sponsored by the National Garden Clubs Inc. for new or existing club projects in their respective communities.

Du Quoin Garden Club, member District VII of Garden Clubs of Illinois, applied for the grant in hopes to add a permanent garden arbor to the Mini Park/Gazebo community garden.

There were more than 100 applications submitted with each of the applications showing a diverse range of projects and community support across the United States. Du Quoin Garden Club is one of 55 recipients of the grant for 2022-2023, with Du Quoin the only Illinois winner.

The project will begin in late spring with the installation of an arbor with help from the City of Du Quoin, Du Quoin Tourism, local volunteers and Garden Club members.

Annual flowering plants will be added in and around the arbor area for color and contrast to accent the Mini Park/Gazebo community garden on Main Street.

The Du Quoin Garden Club is excited to get started on the project, as soon as the weather cooperates.

The club is honored to be the Illinois recipient of the National Garden Clubs Plant America Community Projects Grant and to represent Southern Illinois, District VII of Garden Clubs of Illinois.
