Randolph County briefs: SWCD election; new date for Night at the Races

<b>SWCD elects three directors</b>

The Randolph County Soil and Water Conservation District held an election of directors Feb. 8. Ron Bleem, Carolyn Holder, and Luke Kilgore were elected to serve two-year terms. They will join board members Ron Deterding and Joyce Schmoll at the March 3 SWCD board meeting.

<b>New date for Night at the Races: March 25</b>

The Chester Chamber of Commerce has rescheduled its annual Night at the Races for Friday, March 25, at the Chester Country Club. Doors open at 5 p.m.; races start at 6 p.m. Call early to reserve your table for six or eight; cost is $10 per person. Drinks will be available for purchase; bring your own snacks. Event sponsorships are available. Silver race sponsorship costs $50 and includes recognition in the event guide. Gold race sponsorship costs $150 and includes a free table to the event and recognition for your business at the beginning of your race.

Sponsorship forms are due by March 14 and should be mailed to Bruce Luthy, 1309 Swanwick St., Chester, IL 62233.

<b>It's time to register for kindergarten</b>

Chester District 139 will hold kindergarten registration from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, and 8 a.m. to noon Friday, Feb. 18, at Chester Grade School.

<b>St. John preschool registration</b>

St. John Lutheran School of Chester will be holding registration for 3- and 4-year-old preschool for the 2022-2023 school year from 3:30-6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, and Wednesday, Feb. 23, in the lobby of the Parish Hall. Registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

St. John Lutheran offers an Extended Preschool Program with class sessions for 3- and 4-year-olds from 8-11:15 a.m. and the Early Childhood Room open from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Both sessions include a daily hot lunch. Students must have reached the age of 3 or 4 or before Sept. 1, 2022.

<b>Buchheit fundraiser for FFA ends Feb. 21</b>

Buchheit of Sparta is holding its annual fundraiser for local Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapters through Feb. 21. Customers are asked to donate $1 or $5 to their local chapter.

This year's donations will go to the FFA chapters at Marissa and Sparta high schools. Money raised supports the FFA's agricultural education and is used to cover expenses such as fees to attend state competitions or to buy food for school-owned livestock.
