Rose 'Patsy' Melliges, formerly of Marion

Rose Patricia "Patsy" Melliges, 93, of Vandalia, IL, passed away on February 06, 2022 at SBL Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care.

Per Patsy's wishes cremation rites will be accorded. Interment will be held at a later date in Rose Hill Cemetery, Marion, IL.

Rose Patricia "Patsy" Melliges was born November 14, 1928 in Marion, IL, the daughter of Arnold and Cordelia {Caplinger} Frick. She married Arvil J. Melliges on December 24, 1946 in Marion, IL. Together they shared 65 years of marriage before his passing on May 19, 2012.

While living in Marion Patsy worked as a bank teller and retail clerk; she also took care of her home and family. After moving to Vandalia Patsy sewed and did alterations for friends and family. She volunteered at the local food pantry, delivered Meals on Wheels, and helped with the Summer Lunches for Kids program.

Patsy was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Marion, First Baptist Church of Vandalia, and most recently Unity Baptist Church where she was an active member; she taught Sunday school and helped anywhere she was needed. Patsy also loved to read and would often spend time visiting with residents in nursing homes.

She is survived by her children, Nancy (John) Dye, of Yuma, AZ, Charles (Martha) Melliges of Fredericktown, MO, and Patricia "Pam" (Dr. Kevin) Childers, Vandalia, IL; grandchildren, CDR John (Ola) Dye, USN, Naples, Italy, Rebecca (Andrew) Levy of Fallbrook, CA, Carrie (Rick) Harris of Houston, TX, Stacey (Mike) Reitzel of Perryville MO, Holly (Aaron) Newcom of Edwardsville, Bonnie (Clint) Misselhorn of Carterville, IL, and Maggie (Jacob) Garver of Paris, IL; great-grandchildren, Natalie, Nicole, and Alex Dye, Ella, Josiah, and Eli Levy, Blaine Harris, Jett, Cruz, and Pylot Reitzel, Clark, Amos, and Jay Newcom, Lincoln, Sullivan, and Barrett Misselhorn; brother, William (Sally) Frick of Marion, IL; sister, Marcella Randolph of Marion IL; sister-in-law, Melba Frick, Jacksonville, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Valerie Bess Childers; brother, John Frick; sister, Mae Louise LaBotte; and two infant brothers.
