Doris Marie Smith of Pinckneyville
Doris Marie Smith, age 84, of Pinckneyville, Illinois, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 11:28 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021 in Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
Doris was born on March 18, 1937 in Pinckneyville, a daughter to William J. and Anna Marie (Stern) Ruffino. On March 22, 1955, she married Robert Dean "Smitty" Smith and he preceded her in death on Nov. 7, 2005.
Doris was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Pinckneyville, and she prayed the Rosary daily as her faith was very important to her. She had been a homemaker and then worked for Mums for 10 years.
Doris enjoyed crocheting, sewing, embroidering and making quilts. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking, especially making fudge.
Doris loved her standard poodle, Bella and her Chihuahua, Pebbles, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her two daughters, Tammica Carrie Smith and Marsha Ann (William) Bathon, both of Pinckneyville; 11 grandchildren, Joshua (Mandy) Bathon, Carianna (David) Denton, Dathan (Amber) Bathon, Shaydn Bathon, Devon (Katlynn) Bathon, Jaden Bathon, Curtis Smith, Brittany Smith, Cody (Hailey) Smith, Tabetha Smith and Zoey Smith; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert "Smitty" Smith; son, John Dean Smith; daughter, Lisa Marie Bathon; and a brother, Thomas Ruffino.
Funeral services will be held at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, Todd's Mill, Illinois at noon on Monday, Oct. 4, 2021. Interment will be at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Cemetery in Todd's Mill. Father Augustine Ibezimako will officiate.
Visitation will be held prior to the funeral, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 4 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. The Rosary will be recited at 11:30 a.m.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all mandates and regulations will be enforced.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or St. Joseph's Native American School.
