Joyce McGee named Woman of the Year by Chester Women's Club
The Chester Women's Club opened its 84th season on Friday, Sept. 24, with the annual Officers' Tea at the fellowship hall of the First United Methodist Church.
During the afternoon, the club's Woman of the Year award was presented to longtime member Joyce McGee.
In her presentation, member Cathy Sauer stated that McGee has been club secretary for several years.
"She is dependable, willing to help, outgoing, never knows a stranger and has a sense of humor that is legend," Sauer said.
Following her retirement from a career in the public life, McGee enjoys volunteering for Kids for Christ, attending Bible study, spending time with family and shopping with her daughters.
The meeting was conducted by President Christine Bowles. She welcomed new members, Theresa Ball and Linda Hindman.
Officers for the year, in addition to Bowles, are: Vice President Nikki Myers; Recording Secretary Joyce McGee; Treasurer Jane Stallman; and Corresponding Secretary Cathy Sauer. The newly-appointed program chairman is Melissa Gross.
Mary Ann Stumpe, chairman of the club's scholarship committee, reported that 2021 Chester High School scholarships went to Melody Colonel and Alison Venus. Each received $500 from the club. Additional members of the scholarship committee were Collette Powley, Paula Platt and Norma Baughman.
At the conclusion of the meeting, potted mums were won by Melissa Gross, Mary Ann Stumpe, Theresa Ball and Wanda Dethrow.
