Glen Hamilton of Pinckneyville
Glen R. Hamilton, age 93, of Pinckneyville, passed away at 5:46 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 3, 2021 in his home.
Glen was born on Oct. 25, 1927 in Pinckneyville, Illinois, a son to Dwight Lymon and Lura M. (Russell) Hamilton. On Nov. 11, 1949, he married Marjorie Templeton in the First Presbyterian Church of Pinckneyville. She preceded him in death on March 4, 2005 after 55 years of marriage.
Glen was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Pinckneyville, where he served as an elder and deacon. He was a teacher and coach at Pinckneyville Community High School for 48 years, and during his many years teaching Industrial Technology, Glen wore multiple hats and held a lot of different positions - like announcing football games and overseeing the yearbook.
His dedication was recognized many times, by having an invitational track meet named in his honor; by being chosen as the Mardi Gras Parade grand marshal, and by being honored by the state of Illinois for his service to the IHSA.
He was dearly loved by his students and fellow faculty and he loved them, but his greatest love was his family. You could see that in his face every time he got a chance to talk about them!
Survivors include his two sons, James Scott (Marie) Hamilton of Creal Springs, Illinois and William Dwight (Nancy) Hamilton of Steeleville, Illinois; a daughter, Gwen (Michael) Fox of Bonfield, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Megan (Brandon) Kindle, Katie (Keith) Eastman, Rusty (Taylor) Hamilton, Keith Hamilton, Casey (Arthur) Meyer, Ryan (Dawn) Fox and Rachel (Brandon) Fecht; and seven great-grandchildren, Gwendalynn Fecht, Marjorie Meyer, Artie Meyer, Elliott Fox, Boyd Fox, Owen Hamilton and Wyatt Hamilton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and a granddaughter, Amy Elizabeth Fox.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 9 at the First United Presbyterian Church in Pinckneyville, Illinois, with the Rev. Sam Foskey officiating. Masks will be required. Interment will be in Galum Presbyterian Cemetery in Pinckneyville.
