Violet T. Van Hoorebeke of Du Quoin
Violet T. Van Hoorebeke, 91, of Du Quoin, passed away at 7:48 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 23, 2021 at her residence.
Violet had been owner of Michael's Restaurant in St. Johns. She also worked as a cook for Five Star Industries and in the cafeteria at Ward School.
She was born Aug. 22, 1930 at Du Quoin, Illinois, the daughter of Raymond and Thelma Irene (Biggs) Schmidgall.
She is survived by one daughter, Eunice (Gary) Jacoby of Du Quoin; one son, Ray Melvin (Linda Newton) of Du Quoin; 13 grandchildren, Rebecca Morgan of Derby, Kansas, Brian (Dee) Morgan of Pinckneyville, Jennifer Schomp of New Jersey, Clifford Melvin Jr. of Du Quoin, Kathy Melvin of St. Johns, Krysten Melvin of St. Johns, Michael Eugene Melvin of Coello, Michael Joe Melvin of St. Johns, Schyler Melvin of St. Johns, Camerron Melvin of St. Johns, Angela Campbell of Macon, Georgia, Jessica Long of Macon, Georgia, and David (Tiffany) Melvin Jr. of Du Quoin; 30 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, David Melvin and Michael Melvin; two brothers, George Schmidgall and Frank Schmidgall; and two sisters, Naomi Schmidgall and Barbara Taylor.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Pastor Kevin Place officiating.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Old Du Quoin Cemetery at Du Quoin.
