Carrier Mills demolishes Harris-Parks building

CARRIER MILLS - A historic building in Carrier Mills that had become a public safety hazard was demolished Wednesday.

The R. Harris-I.F. Parks Building, more commonly known as the "Harris-Parks building" was built in 1908.

After two fires swept through Carrier Mills in early 1908, destroying most of the wooden buildings in the downtown area, businessowners rebuilt new buildings with brick. The Harris-Parks building was one of those brick buildings.

In recent years, many of the physically declining old brick buildings in the downtown area have been demolished.
