Paul Dean Stowers of Du Quoin

Paul Dean Stowers, 80, of Du Quoin, passed away at 4:31 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 12, 2020 at the SIH Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

Paul had been a D9 operator in reclamation at Consol #4 coal mine for 27 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin. Paul was a United States Army veteran. He was a member of UMWA and an avid fisherman.

He was born June 22, 1940 at Du Quoin, Illinois, the son of Hershel and Edna (Morris) Stowers.

He married Sheryl C. Woodsides on Sept. 23, 1967 at Pinckneyville, Illinois, and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin; one son, Paul E. Stowers (wife Sherry Dee) of Du Quoin; one daughter, Shelly (Shawn) File of Du Quoin; five grandchildren, Shelby (Jon) Warren of Dowell, Delainey File, Elijah File, Caitney File and Beckett File, all of Du Quoin; one great-grandchild, James Warren of Dowell; two brothers, Clarence Stowers and Joseph Stowers, both of Du Quoin; and two sisters, Velma Harsy of Du Quoin and Patsy Williams of Hendersonville, Tennessee.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, John Stowers, William Stowers, James Stowers and Donald Stowers; and four sisters, Dorothy Rucks, Cora Ridgeway, Eva Elledge and Stella Stowers.

Since Paul's passing, his sister Velma Harsy and brother-in-law Galen Woodsides have passed away.

Graveside services will begin at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at the Old Du Quoin Cemetery at Du Quoin with Bro. Shawn File officiating.

Those attending the service are asked to dress casually and go directly to the cemetery.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion and the Army National Guard.

Burial will be in the Old Du Quoin Cemetery at Du Quoin.

Friends are invited to make memorials to the American Cancer Society, First Baptist Church in Du Quoin, or American Diabetes Association. They will be accepted at the funeral home.
