Gallatin County Historical Society wants you to share memories

GALLATIN COUNTY - Preserving written and oral histories is a project our historical society is continually working on.

In the past few years, we took notice of the large number of older residents that were passing away and with them volumes of local history. Our organizations intent is to continue to promote and preserve local history in all forms being written or oral; oral history is one that continues to be a favorite of all age groups.

The Gallatin County Historical Society continues to reach out to all the communities within its boundary in hopes of sharing the past while moving into the future. Our goal is to archive for present and future generations access to the stories their ancestors shared firsthand of their trials and tribulations that might be otherwise lost.

We hope you will take and few minutes to write down some of your Gallatin County memories so others will enjoy the stories about the people who lived here at some point in their lives. Your memories will be placed in a binder at the Museum for viewing. We encourage you to write down your stories and mail them to the GCHS at PO Box 195 Shawneetown, IL 62984. The John Marshall home bank Museum operating hours are from 1 to 4 p.m. on the first and third Sundays of the month, May through October.
