Elva Klementine 'Kay' Murray, formerly of Du Quoin and Pinckneyville

Elva Klementine "Kay" McMurray, of Springfield, Illinois, died at the age of 103 on May 17, 2021 at St. Joseph's Home, surrounded by her family.

She was born on Sept. 23, 1917, in Pinckneyville, Illinois, the daughter of Benjamin Jr. and Mary Louise Baker Keene. In 1942, she married Sgt. Eugene P. McMurray in Inman, South Carolina and he died in 1988. She previously resided in Du Quoin, Illinois and was a resident of Springfield since 1957.

Kay was employed at Bressmer's Department Store for 22 years. She was a member of Springfield Southern Baptist Church and the Golden Circle Sunday school Class. She was a 25-year member of the Ann Clark Circle of King's Daughters. Kay was a volunteer in crafts at Lincoln Memorial Garden for many years.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Doris Jean McMurray; her parents; three sisters and four brothers.

Surviving are two sons, Darrell (Vicky) McMurray and Thomas (Patti) McMurray, both of Springfield; five grandchildren, Jen Lambert of Springfield, Jeff McMurray of Chicago, Jason (Kayla) McMurray of Springfield, Traci McMurray of Chicago, and Scott McMurray of Springfield; four great-grandchildren, Maddie Gleeson of Springfield, Joe Gleeson of Fort Hood, Texas, Zach Gleeson of Springfield, and Jayla McMurray of Springfield; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home in Springfield. The funeral service will begin at 11:30 a.m. also at Staab Funeral Home, with the Rev. Michael Keppler officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Springfield Southern Baptist Church, 225 N. Grand Ave., Springfield, Illinois 62702 or to a charity of the donor's choice.

CDC protocol shall be followed inside the funeral home.
