Du Quoin Garden Club hosts district meeting

District VII, Garden Clubs of Illinois Inc., held its annual spring meeting last month at the Labor Pavilion inside the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds.

The Du Quoin Garden Club hosted the first outdoor event, with 19 members and guests present representing District VII of Southern Illinois. In attendance were District VII executive board members, District VII club presidents, Garden Clubs of Illinois 1st Vice President Carol Ohrn, and other District VII members and guests.

The biannual meeting highlighted the minutes of the fall 2020 meeting at Touch of Nature, the Treasurer's report, announcements of 2020 awards from Vice President Ohrn, committee reports and a director's report from Linda Karraker.

The District VII Secretary and Treasurer for the upcoming term were installed by Vice President Ohrn, and members shared "plantables" with each other - native plants, bulbs, rhizomes, tubers, seedlings and even sprouted trees.

It was a fun gardening activity for the members to plant and/or to share with a neighbor or friend.

The next District VII meeting is planned for October 2021, hosted by the Anna-Jo Garden Club of Anna.
