Peggy June Rister Ozment of Harrisburg

Peggy June Rister Ozment, 89, passed away peacefully at her home in Harrisburg on April 6, 2021 surrounded by family and friends.

Peggy June Rister was born in Muddy on April 22, 1931 to Seth and Aileen (Smith) Rister. Peggy married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Lee Ozment, on Aug. 31, 1952 at McKinley Avenue Baptist Church and they were married 66 years. Ken and Peg had the honor of being the first couple married in their new church building.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Seth and Aileen Rister; her husband, Kenneth Lee Ozment; firstborn son, Randall Keith Ozment; and her brothers, Jack Rister and Bill Huston.

Peggy is survived by her children, Ron Ozment (wife Janice), Suzette Lambert (husband Duane), Lisa Ozment, and her "French son", Frederic de Morcourt (wife Isabelle); grandchildren, Jordan Lambert (wife Alexa), Brette Lambert, Veronica Ozment Miles (husband Ben), Valerie Ozment-O'Brien (husband Jason), Kara Bennett, Alexis de Morcourt, Stan de Morcourt, and Etienne de Morcourt; and great-grandchildren, Carleigh Miles, Colsten Miles and Wallace Lambert. Her sister, Judy (Rister) Cowgur (husband John), survives her as well.

Peggy was passionate about her work, her community and life. She received great pleasure in all aspects of real estate, from helping young couples find their first home, to helping her community to grow, as well as looking for a great "deal" for her family. After her first trip abroad, she decided she wanted to travel the world, so she did just that, often taking her children and grandchildren with her, instilling the love of travel in them as well.

Peggy's greatest love was for her Lord, Jesus. She was a devoted member of McKinley Avenue Baptist Church for more than 70 years, where she attended regularly until she was no longer able.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to McKinley Avenue Baptist Church. To send the family condolences or make a final personal comment, you can visit McKinley Avenue Baptist Church's Facebook page.

The family would like to sincerely thank Peggy's wonderful caregivers, Leslie Smith, Lounita Mitchell, Caitlyn Roberts, Courtney Wead and Tracy Ditterline, and send great gratitude to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

A celebration of life service for Peggy Ozment will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 10, 2021 at McKinley Avenue Baptist Church, 410 W. Sloan St. in Harrisburg. Pastor Billy Dye will officiate. Always wanting to help others, Peggy decided to make an anatomical donation to the SIU School of Medicine; therefore, no graveside services. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at McKinley Church.
