HMC celebrates Doctors' Day

HARRISBURG - On March 30, 2021, Harrisburg Medical Center will celebrate a holiday that has been around since 1933 - Doctors' Day.

This day is set aside each year to honor the individuals who have dedicated their lives to the healing arts. And yes, they dedicate their lives of being a physician as an all-consuming function of their lives, not just an occupation.

The first Doctor's Day was celebrated in 1933 in Winder, Georgia. March 30 was chosen to celebrate Doctors' Day because it is the anniversary of the first time ether anesthesia was used. Physicians continue to make significant and lasting medical advances almost daily so it is very fitting that we set aside one day each year to celebrate their many accomplishments.

Here at Harrisburg Medical Center, we are proud to salute the primary care physicians who take care of patients' needs on a daily basis: Dr. James Alexander, Dr. Kimball Ewell, Dr. Andrea Miller and Dr. Clay Ford.

We are honored to salute Psychiatrist Dr. Naeem Qureshi, who handles the behavioral health needs of southern Illinois.

We are equally proud to salute the surgeons who operate at Harrisburg Medical Center: Dr. Brahm Jyot, Dr. Marie Gorski, Dr. Don Arnold and Dr. Mitchell Cook.

We salute our hospitalists, Dr. Patrick Riley and Dr. Anand Patel.

We salute our local radiologist, Dr. Sam Youseff.

And, we salute our host of physicians who treat patients in the Emergency Department including Dr. Othniel Doolittle, Dr. Adam Korman, Dr. Ali Pandamous and Dr. Thomas Bucinski.

These dedicated physicians at Harrisburg Medical Center exemplify the very reason that Doctors' Day exists. They are hardworking, dedicated, and professional.

They care for us well and we thank them.
