Catherine 'Katie' Thomas of Pinckneyville

Catherine "Katie" Thomas, age 92, of Pinckneyville, Illinois, passed away at 11 p.m. on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at Fairview Nursing and Rehabilitation, in Du Quoin, Illinois.

Katie was born on Feb. 1, 1929 in Tamaroa, Illinois, a daughter to Edwin Roy and Lillie (Sronce) Jones. On Nov. 4, 1950 she married Charles E. Thomas Jr. in Pinckneyville, and he preceded her in death on April 17, 1997.

Katie worked as a florist for Pat's Flower Shop and Erwin's Flower Shop and she owned Floristically Yours. She was a member of Liberty Church in Du Quoin, the Eastern Star and the White Shrine. Katie loved reading, gardening and spending time with her kids and grandkids.

Survivors include her son, Doug (Toni) Thomas of Du Quoin; daughter, Pam (Louis) Hottes of Sebring, Florida; three grandchildren, Monica (Tim) Knapp of Zeigler, Illinois, Melinda (Rick) Bowlin of Elkville, Illinois and Chelsey Rae (Paul) Jackson of Carbondale, Illinois; nine great-grandchildren, Alex, Kelsey and Jameson Knapp, Wade, Jacob and Maycee Bowlin, Oak Jackson, Kacey and Sarrah Hottes; one sister, Jenetta (Kenneth) Holt of Pinckneyville; one nephew, Steven (Amanda) Holt; and two nieces, Rhonda Holt and Linda Poos.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Michael Hottes; two infant brothers, Wayne and David Jones; one sister, Lucy Redford; one brother-in-law, Olin Redford; one niece, Terri Redford-Powers; and one nephew-in-law, Roger Poos.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 22 at Pyatt Funeral Home in Du Quoin, with Lon McPherson officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park, Du Quoin. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Monday, at Pyatt Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Due to health concerns related to the COVID-19 virus, attendance will be limited and social distancing will be enforced. All attendees are asked to wear masks.

Memorial donations are suggested to Liberty Church in Du Quoin.
