Du Quoin briefs: American Pickers; 8th grade promotion
<b>'American Pickers' coming to Illinois</b>
The "American Pickers" TV show is coming to Illinois and is looking for leads. If you or someone you know has a large, private collection or accumulation of antiques that the pickers can spend the better part of the day looking through, send your name, phone number, location, and description of the collection with photos to: americanpickers@cineflix.com, or call (855) OLD-RUST. Facebook: @GotAPick. The show plans to film in Illinois in May 2021. "American Pickers" is a documentary series on the History Channel that explores the world of antique "picking."
<b>8th grade promotion held on May 25</b>
The 2021 eighth-grade promotion ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25, which coincides with the last day of student attendance. The school board originally considered having the event on Friday, May 28, but teachers at the school pointed out - through DEA representative Pam Pursell - that once again that date would fall after the final day they are contractually obligated to be in school (although they said they would come, even so). As well, Superintendent Matt Hickam said parents have told him they would prefer to have a four-day Memorial Day Weekend. The board, then, settled on the 25th.
<b>District 300 personnel</b>
The Du Quoin school board approved five reduction in force notices that are sent annually to sponsors and coaches who are not members of the Du Quoin Education Association. They are being sent to assistant softball coaches Bailie Caldwell and Sadie Day, Keith Ellis (who is an assistant basketball and assistant football coach; and Indianettes coaches Bri Green and Kirsten Kremer.
The District 300 school board has approved the transfer of Lanae Leposky to a 2nd grade teaching position for the current school year.
