U.S. 51 OVERPASS CLOSED FOR ABOUT A MONTH
The downtown Du Quoin overpass that carries Route 51 over the CN tracks is closed to general traffic as repairs are made to the concrete parapets, which will take about a month.
Emergency vehicles are still allowed to use the overpass, since the work is to the walls on either side of the road, and not to the road surface.
Truck traffic that normally comes through Du Quoin is being rerouted between state routes 14 and 154, via state Route 148.
The overpass, originally called the Poplar Street Overpass, was opened in 1995 and moved heavy Route 51 traffic off Main Street.
It was renamed for former Du Quoin mayor John Rednour in 2014.
