Florene May Walters, formerly of Du Quoin
Florene May (Dominick) Walters, 84, of Moberly, Missouri, returned to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on March 5, 2021, surrounded by family, at Ravenwood Terrace Assisted Living in Moberly.
Florene was born on Nov. 17, 1936 in Du Quoin, Illinois, sharing her entrance into the world with her fraternal twin sister, Lorene. They were born to Fred Carl Dominick and Lela Josephine Williams.
Florene married Lyman Roger Sisney Dec. 31, 1953 in Kankakee and later divorced. They shared seven children: Micki; Jacki SanVictores; Michael E. Sisney; Genevieve Hels; Rebecca Castagne; Daniel S. Sisney; and Barbra A. Carden. She married Raymond Walters July 5, 1977 and they divorced. They shared no children.
Florene is survived by her children Micki, Jacki SanVictores, Genevieve Hels, Rebecca Castagne, Daniel S. Sisney and Barbra A. Carden.
She was preceded in death by her son, Michael E. Sisney; her father, Fred Carl Dominick; mother Lela Josephine Williams; brothers George Fred, Billy Ray, Richard Dean and Gerald Lee; and sisters Mildred Louise, Bertha Mae, Catherine Lucille, Lorene Faye and Janet Lou.
Florene loved social events, crossword puzzles, playing pool, board games, cards, reading novels, studying scriptures and attending church. She enjoyed talking on the phone and writing cards to friends and family. Christmas was her favorite time of year. She loved celebrating her Lord and Savior. She was always excited to send everyone Christmas cards and was known for receiving so many back she used them as decorations.
Although, she moved from Du Quoin in her last years to be cared for by her daughters, southern Illinois always held her heart and memories. She was born during the Great Depression. She told stories of her childhood and never forgot the suffering, sorrows and poverty of her family and those around her. She was known for her generous heart, strong faith, and commitment to family and friends. Her belief in the Gospel of Jesus Christ gave her comfort and strength throughout her life. She was quick to pray for anyone in need. She was loved by all.
Florene wished to be cremated, using the services of Million Taylor Funeral Homes, 320 S. Williams St. in Moberly. She will be laid to rest in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Du Quoin.
Her last written words to her children:
All my children shall be taught of the Lord and great shall be the peace of thy children. (Isaiah 54:13)
Lean not to your own understanding. Trust in God, my children.
Be brave and of good courage.
Her last written words to the world: Awake, Awake, Awake!
A special thank you to Ravenwood Terrace Assisted Living for their kindness, love and excellent care of our mother.
