Juanita Pickford of Harrisburg

Juanita Pickford, 95, of Harrisburg, peacefully passed away on Dec. 31, 2020.

Juanita was born on April 13, 1925 to Press and Rhoda King of Harrisburg. In high school, Juanita played the French horn and was also a majorette in the Harrisburg High School Marching Band.

After Juanita graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1943, she married Norman Pickford of Harrisburg, who she had met at Harrisburg High School.

Juanita and Norman had two children, Bertis Wayne and David Lee and were married 60 years. While she raised her children, she was an active member of the PTA, helped at Golden Circle and also worked alongside her husband raising and selling tomatoes. In addition, she helped at Shawnee Decorating in Harrisburg where she was part owner with her brother, Hinkle King.

Juanita was an active and devoted member of McKinley Avenue Baptist Church in Harrisburg, where she served as the Sunday school secretary. She attended McKinley from after high school until she was no longer physically able to attend.

Juanita had many hobbies including knitting and crocheting. In the latter half of her life, she developed a passion for painting.

Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, and her son, Bertis Wayne.

She is survived by her son, David; her grandchildren, Jerid, Christine, Sean, Erinn, Brandon; and her great-grandchildren, Dalton, Anna and Kyle.

Juanita loved her family, her church, and her community with a tenacity felt by people who knew her and met her. She is loved and will be missed.

Regretfully, due to COVID-19, the family feels that it is appropriate for services to be limited to graveside only. Services will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021 at Sunset Lawn Cemetery. The Rev. Billy Dye Jr. will officiate.
