Lida 'Torchy' Schork of Harrisburg

Lida "Torchy" Schork, age 98 of Harrisburg, passed away at 11:54 a.m. on Dec. 8, 2020 at Brookstone Estates surrounded by her family.

Torchy was born on March 12, 1922 in Harrisburg to the late Frank and Mary (Matthews) Thomas. She married John L. Schork on Nov. 23, 1950 and he preceded her in death on March 17, 1985.

Torchy taught one year of elementary school in Raleigh before working in women's fashion at Myrons. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Harrisburg, where she was active in the bear ministry. She was also a member of the Evergreen Garden Club and the Class of 1940 Reunion Committee.

Torchy was a very vibrant, independent, modern woman well before her time. She enjoyed gardening and raising herbs, was a master bingo player and enjoyed all the activities at Brookstone Estates. She loved her daughters, her grandsons, and her great-grandchildren, and enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's sporting events.

Torchy is survived by two daughters, Melanie (Ed) Bradley of Marion and Mary (David) Winkleman of Harrisburg; four grandsons, John (Michelle) Bradley of Marion, Josh Bradley of Marion, Dr. Matthew (Dr. Laura M.) Winkleman of Harrisburg; and the Rev. Chris (Laura) Winkleman of Harrisburg; 16 great-grandchildren, Jackson Bradley, Gabriel Bradley, Caroline Bradley, Ella Bradley, Sam Winkleman, Luke Winkleman, Sarah Grace Winkleman, Noah Winkleman, Bo Winkleman, Sophie Winkleman, Issac Winkleman, Mary Beth Winkleman, Lilli Winkleman, Asher Winkleman, Austin Reach and Madison Guye; nieces, Jill Dangerfield of Ohio and Lindsay Horton of Georgia; nephew, Stratton Thomas; and great-niece Pam Pearson.

In addition to her parents and husband John, Torchy was preceded in death by a son, John Matthew Schork; sisters Hannah Lasersohn Lee and Dorothy Thomas; a brother, Frank Thomas Jr.; a niece, Jane Tuttle; and nephews, Dr. Jack Lasersohn and Crit Thomas.

Graveside services for Lida "Torchy" Schork will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020 at Sunset Lawn Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Tom Logsdon and the Rev. Dr. Alan Rhine officiated.

Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church of Harrisburg or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
