Salukis sign three highly ranked recruits

It was a banner day on Wednesday for Saluki basketball fans, men's head coach Bryan Mullins and the Saluki basketball program.

Mullins and his coaches signed three top players, giving Mullins one of the highest-ranked signing classes in recent Saluki history.

At the top of that list may be Notre Dame's 6-foot-7 small forward, Troy D'Amico. The Chicago-area recruit is a three-skill first team Illinois All-Stater who can shoot, rebound and pass - all against top Chicago talent.

The 6-foot-5 guard Foster Wonders from Iron Mountain, Mich., is another player with such skills. Wonders was also an All-Stater, rated the seventh best basketball player in the state of Michigan, no matter what the size of school.

Scottie Ebube is a bit different. He is a front-line player who has the size and toughness SIU could use this year after the loss of J.D. Muila. Ebube is a force to be reckoned with under the hoop on offense and defense. Look for Ebube to get in plenty of playing time next year.

All three of Mullins' new recruits share characteristics that make up what Mullins refers to as the "Saluki Culture."

"Despite the pandemic, I really got to know these three guys and they checked all three boxes," said Mullins in an interview last week. "They all are winners, they are tough and exhibit the sort of character that we are looking for."

Mullins has one more scholarship to give - a holdover from last year's recruiting. It remains a mystery if it will be offered, but look to the spring signing period.
