Man dies after being struck by vehicle Sunday evening

A 31-year-old Percy man died after being hit by a car Sunday evening on Locust Road near Coolie Bottom Road outside of Steeleville.

According to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, Degan Sanders was walking westbound on Locust Road after hunting in that area, when he was struck by a westbound Chrysler 300, driven by a 47-year-old Steeleville woman.

The sheriff's office said Wednesday it is continuing to investigate the death.

Steeleville police were first to arrive on the scene, and called for the medical first responders who attempted lifesaving measures. Sanders was later pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.

The sheriff's office news release does not give a time for the accident, nor does it mention if charges or traffic citations were issued against the driver.
