Cindy Svanda leading for Jackson County circuit clerk

Voters in Jackson County faced several contested races for top jobs within the courthouse on today's ballot, including for circuit clerk.

Democrat Cindy Svanda, who has served more than two decades as circuit clerk, fended off a challenge from the Green Party's Jessica Bradshaw, who is in her second term on the Carbondale City Council.

With 56 of 56 precincts reporting, Svanda leads with 14,327 votes to Bradshaw's 5,641.

Polls in Jackson County closed at 7 p.m. Current vote totals may not yet include all ballots cast in this election, and they won't be final until canvassed by elections officials.
