Yellow Jacket golf Chester boys are Black Diamond runners-up Jarrett James is back to back conference champ

The Chester High School Boys Golf Team is the 2020 Black Diamond Conference runner-up and CHS golfer Jarrett James is the Black Diamond Conference Champion for the second year in a row.

The BDC match was held Sept. 25 at Franklin County Country Club in West Frankfort. James shot 74 for 18 holes (+3) to win the individual championship, while teammate Jaden Mott shot 80 (+9) to place 7th overall. Both boys made the 2020 Black Diamond Conference All-Conference Team.

"All six Yellow Jacket players shot under 100 at a very tough Franklin County Country Club course," said Chris Toledo, CHS head coach. I extend my congratulations to all six."

They include Chance Mott, who shot 84 (+13); Kaden Freytag (87, +16); Luke Miller (90, +19); and Gage Hasemeyer (95, +24). With the eight wins and one loss at the conference match the Yellow Jackets improved to 35-7 for the year.

The BDC tournament was taken by Carmi-White County, with 319 strokes; Chester (2nd, 325); Hamilton County (3rd, 333); Trico (4th, 345); Goreville (5th, 362); Fairfield (6th, 364); Eldorado (7th, 368); Zeigler-Royalton-Christopher (8th, 371); Vienna (9th, 399); and Johnston City (10th, 478).

The Top 10 golfers were named to the All Conference Team: Jarrett James, Chester (medalist, 74); A.J. Johnson, Goreville (2nd, 76); KaCee Fulkerson, Carmi-White County (3rd, 77); Ty Barbre of Carmi-White County and Abe Neal of Hamilton County (tie for 4th, 78); Kaden Carter, Carmi-White County (6th, 79); Jaden Mott, Chester (7th, 80); Daniel Vogt of Trico, Laban Hunt of Hamilton County and Noah McElroy of Fairfield (three-way tie for 8th, 82).

Jackets get 3 wins

The Jackets beat Nashville, New Athens and Sparta on Sept. 21 at the Sparta Country Club. As a team Chester shot 165, followed by Nashville (168), Sparta (191) and New Athens (219). Jarrett James and Jaden Mott of the Yellow Jackets tied for medalist honors with rounds of 36 (+1), James's 10th medalist honor of the year and Mott's second.

Other Yellow Jackets who contributed are Luke Miller who shot 45 (+10); Kaden Freytag 48 (+13); Clayton Andrews 49 (+14) and Chance Mott 49 (+14).

Nashville was led by Gabe Kreid who shot 37. Sparta's James Pillers led the Bulldogs with a score of 44 and New Athens' Mason Page turned in a score of 49.

CHS 1-1 at Waterloo

Chester beat Red Bud and lost to Gibault at the Acorns Golf Links in Waterloo on Sept. 24. Chester's Jarrett James and Gibault's Ryan Kruse tied for medalist honors with 38 strokes apiece (+2). The honor was Jarrett's' 11th such honor of the 2020 season.

Chester senior Matt Korando (51), junior Brock Vasquez (52), sophomore Aiden Blechle (57) all set new personal best performances.
