DHS cross country Yellow Jackets finish 5th and 6th at meets last week
CHS hosts home meet
The Yellow Jackets finished 6th out of six teams at the Randolph County Conservation Area last week, led by Logan Gregory who finished 11th out of 44 runners.
Jordan Hughes was Chester's second finisher. He finished 20th overall with a time of 21:38.
Jacob Handel (24:09), Trace Fricke (24.12) and Blake Huffman (24.16) finished 35th, 36th and 37th places.
Team scores were: Christ Our Rock (1st, 41); Vienna (2nd, 44); Columbia (3rd, 52); Valmeyer (4th, 104); and Chester (5th, 115). Gibault did not have a team score due to having only three runners.
Zach McKowen of Christ Our Rock in Centralia was the overall winner with a time of 17:14 and a pace of 5:45 per mile.
CHS 6th at Goreville
Ten schools competed in this event: Hamilton County, NCOE, Goreville, Crab Orchard, Pope County, Chester, Christopher, Goreville, Cobden and Johnston City.
The Hamilton County Foxes won the team competition with 55 points, followed by NCOE (2nd, 61); Goreville (3rd, 73); Crab Orchard (84); Pope County (5th, 89) and Chester (6th, 113). Cobden, Christopher and Johnston City did not field teams, only individual runners.
The Jackets were paced by Logan Gregory who ran 18:33 with a pace of 6:24. He placed 8th overall. Jordan Hughes finished 20th with a time of 19:44. Jacob Handel ran 20:37 and finished 27th.
Trace Fricke ran 21:17 and finished 31st. Blake Huffman finished in 32nd place with a time of 21:49.
Braydon Middendorf of Hamilton County was the winner, with a time of 17:12 and a pace of 5:56 per mile. Teammate Trace Butler was the runner-up, at 17:25.
CHS at East Alton
The East Alton-Wood River meet was a small, four-team event with just 13 runners. East Alton-Wood River, Red Bud, Waterloo and Chester competed. Nick Fehr of Red Bud won the race with a time of 13:43. Waterloo was led by runner-up Jackson Goedeke, who finished at 13:55.
Chester was the only school to field a full team, and so won the team event. Chester runners placed 6th (15:28), 7th (16:57), 8th (17:30), 10th (18:01) and 12th (18:32) for a total team score of 15 points. Specific names were not available to match the times and places.
