NAACP holds voter registration drives

Carbondale Branch NAACP observed National Voter Registration Day last weekend by holding a voter registration drive at the Carbondale Public Library.

National Voter Registration Day is designed to remind Americans to register to vote or update their voter registration before state-specific deadlines to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to vote. Since the holiday was first observed in 2012, it is estimated that nearly 3 million voters have registered to vote on this day.

The NAACP will also conduct the following voter registration events:

Sept. 25, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., SIU Student Center

Sept. 29, 1 to 4 p.m., SIU Student Services Building

Sept. 30, 10 a.m. to noon, Victory Dream Center; 2 to 5 p.m., Carbondale Public Library

Oct. 2, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., SIU Student Center
