Mary John Wasson of Equality
Mary John Wasson, 96, of Equality, passed away at 11:45 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 18, 2020 at her home.
She was born on Aug. 15, 1924 in Equality to John O. and Effie A. (Huntsman) Baldwin. She graduated from Southern Illinois Normal University and taught high school at Equality, then along with her husband, Norman at Newton until he took a government job at Scott Air Force Base where she became a GS2.
After her husband died in an auto accident on Jan. 9, 1960, she returned to teaching at Norris City, Shawneetown, and retired as librarian from Harrisburg High School in 1983.
She was also a member of the Gallatin County Association for Home and Community Education and Rebekah Lodge No. 578.
Mary is survived by two daughters, Deborah Ann McClallen of Carbondale and Lisa Adele (Jim) Teegarden of Falmouth, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Jessica Ann (Tim) Rawlins, Nathan Bernon McClallen, Mark William (Miranda) McClallen and Scott Joseph McClallen; and two great-grandchildren, Venice John Lamb and Anthony Thayer Lamb.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Anna Ellen Baldwin and Vada Lorene Lentlie; and a brother, William (Bill) Bryant Baldwin.
Visitation will be held 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2020 at the Equality Presbyterian Church followed by a funeral at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg.
A dinner for family and friends will be held afterward at the Family Life Center in Equality.
Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality is in charge of arrangements. Due to COVID-19, masks and social distancing will be required.
