One dead after motorcycle/car accident in Perry County

A 19-year-old man from Pinckneyville died Friday after suffering major injuries in a motorcycle accident on Route 13 in Perry County.

According to the Illinois State Police, John P. Bouchard Jr., 19, was riding a motorcycle westbound on Route 13 when the bike he was driving hit the back of a Chevrolet Malibu waiting to turn left onto Azalea Road.

Police said Bouchard was ejected from the vehicle, and was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died.

Three of the four people inside the Malibu - a 44-year-old woman, a 12-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl, all of Marion - were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The fourth occupant, a 16-year-old girl, refused medical attention at the scene, police said.

The ISP's preliminary investigative details say the Malibu was westbound on Route 13, and was slowing in traffic to turn left on Azalea Road. The motorcycle, also westbound, started to pass the vehicle behind the Malibu, but did see the Malibu start to turn left.

The motorcycle hit the back of the Malibu, ejecting Bouchard off the vehicle. The Malibu, meanwhile, drove off the roadway and hit the side of a house.

The ISP Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit (TCRU) is continuing the investigation.
