CHS girls golf Lady Jackets improve to 9-4 with win over Sparta Camryn Luthy earns 5th low medalist award of season

The Lady Jacket golf team picked up a win over Sparta last week to improve to 9-4 for the season. In the process, freshman Camryn Luthy shot a 46 (10 over par) to win her fifth medalist award.

Christ Our Rock Lutheran High School from Centralia was supposed to compete, but due to the distance involved, decided to give the match a miss. The Lady Jackets will face CORLHS on Oct. 1 at Centralia.

Instead, the Lady Jackets hosted their Randolph County rival Sparta at the Chester Country Club, on a clear, warm day with rather high humidity.

Besides Luthy, three other Lady Jackets had personal best performances against Sparta.

Senior Lauryn Soellner, who is playing golf because volleyball has been moved to the spring, shot a 54 for a new PR. Junior Kailyn Absher, another volleyball player, shot 58 for her nine holes, impressive because she is a golf rookie who has been playing only five weeks.

Another personal best came from sophomore Aubrie Medford who shot 59 (+23). Medford is another rookie player this year. She improves each match and holds her own, considering she has never played competitively before.

Also contributing to the win over the Lady Bulldogs were senior Samantha Eggemeyer who shot 55 (+19); freshman Jazzi Meredith who shot 57 (+21), and sophomore Paige Vasquez who shot 60 (+24) for the day. Chester's team score was 212.

On the JV squad, Maleia Absher, a sophomore newcomer, shot 68 while freshman Rylie McDonough shot 76.

Sparta was led by Claire Baue who shot 48 for her nine holes. She was followed by Makayla McCready (62), Sydney Rheinecker (67), Abbey Zweigert (80) and Emma Carpenter (80) for a team score of 251.

• On Monday, the Lady Jackets traveled to Pyramid Oaks to take on Trico; on Wednesday, they will go to Red Bud to compete against the Lady Musketeers; on Thursday, they will be at the Sparta Country Club to face the hometown Lady Bulldogs. All matches start at 4 p.m.
