CHS cross country Girls finish 2nd, boys 3rd at home meet

Chester High School hosted its first home cross country meet of the season Sept. 10 at the Randolph County Conservation Area. Paul Stallman was the meet official and Mary Stallman of Alias Race Management was the official score keeper.

Steeleville wins meet

There were 34 runners from seven schools in the boys race: Chester, Steeleville, Red Bud, Gibault Catholic, Goreville, Johnston City and Christ Our Savior Lutheran High School.

The overall individual winner of the meet was Christian Rees of Steeleville, with a time of 19:01 and an overall pace of 6:21 minutes a mile. His teammate Ray Dagner placed 2nd with a time of 19:06.

Steeleville had three more runners place in the Top 10: Clayton Dagner (4th, 19:31), Cayton Cratch (6th, 19:41), Eli Rushing (8th, 19:59), and Camden Pierce (9th, 20:00). Other Warrior runners were David Coleman (15th, 21:46), Joey Stoffel (23rd, 24:08) and Tanner Allison (25th, 24:59).

Steeleville won the team competition with 20 points.

Red Bud placed second in the team competition with 69 points. The Musketeers were led by Nick Fehr who placed 3rd overall with a time of 19:19 and a pace of 6:27. Other Red Bud contributors included Ethen Summers (12th, 20:45), Warren Stolte (21:49), Isaac Miller (24th, 24:54). Joseph Hanger (27th, 26:16), and Kadin Summers (34th, 29:49).

The Yellow Jackets finished 3rd overall with a score of 71 points.

The Jackets were led by Logan Gregory who finished fifth overall with a time of 19:34 and a pace of 6:32 per mile. Jacob Handel finished 14th with his time of 21:39. Jordan Hughes finished 17th with a time of 23:15. Blake Farmer turned in a time of 23:54 and he placed 20th. Trace Fricke finished 26th with his time of 25:10 and Blake Huffman recorded a time of 28:16 finishing 32nd.

The final team score was earned by the Goreville Blackcats. The Cats accumulated 72 points, paced by Cole Rushing who finished in 10th place with a time of 20:12 and a pace of 6:44.

Other Blackcats included Drake Moss (13th, 21:01), Zach Grammer (18th, 23:22), Tyler Suits (19th, 23:26), Ethan Lingle (21st, 23:54), Caleb Daniel (30th, 27:39) and Evan Moore (33rd, 29:11).

Gibault, Johnston City and Christ Our Savior did not have enough runners to qualify for team scores.

Gibault had just two runners including Jackson Goedeke who finished 7th overall with a time of 19:43 and a pace of 6:35 and Paden Schultz who finished 11th overall with his time of 20:26.

Johnston City also fielded two runners. Roman Dodd finished 22nd with a time of 24:00. Johnathan Tindall finished 28th with a time of 26:49.

Christ Our Savior entered two competitors: Joshua Simms (29th, 27:23) and David Koester (31st, 27:49).

Red Bud wins girls team competition

Six schools and 27 runners competed but only Red Bud (1st place) and Chester (2nd place) had enough runners to field teams. Other participating schools were Steeleville, Goreville, Gibault and Johnston City.

The overall individual winner of the meet was Brooke Biffar, a senior from Gibault Catholic of Waterloo, who had a time of 22:26 and an overall pace of 7:29 per mile. The other two Lady Hawk runners were Regan Gerteisen who placed in the Top 10 with her time of 26:35 and Lauren Eichholz who finished 21st with a time of 34:15.

Red Bud won the team competition with 18 points. The Lady Musketeers were led by Adrienne Vallett who finished second overall. Other Red Bud Top 10 finishers included Simone Liefer (3rd, 24:55) and Mackenzie Hahn (8th, 27:11). The Lady Musketeers were rounded out by Anna Wolters (11th, 27:49), Mia Beshoar (14th, 30:28), Harlie Braun (17th, 30:51) and Lauren Myerscough (26th, 41:57).

The Lady Jackets second with 39 points. Josie Kattenbraker finished in 10th place. Her time was 27:41 and her overall pace was 9:14 per mile. Just a minute and 11 seconds behind Kattenbraker was junior Madison Kribs who finished 12th overall with her time of 28:55 and a pace of 9:39.

Hannah Blechle turned in a time of 30:46, placing 16th. Amelia Shemonic finished 19th at 32:46. In 20th place was Chester's Josalynn Anaya and a time of 33:59. Katie Shinabargar finished in 23rd place with a time of 35:00. Senior Melody Colonel finished 27th. Her time was 42:50.

Each Lady Jacket improved her time at the Chester meet, most everyone by at least two minutes.

Steeleville finishers included Morgan Creamer (4th, 25:25), Grace Cronin (7th, 26:46), Aubrey Bockhorn (9th, 27:28), and Mia Gall (22nd, 34:25). Goreville was led by Ellie Gramer who finished 5th overall with her time of 26:03 and a pace of 8:41. Other Lady Blackcats included Miley Kwiatkowski (13th, 30:24), Briella Morgan (15th, 30:35), and Maddy Hill (24th, 35:46).

The Johnston City Lady Indians were Michaela Moulton who finished 18th with a time of 32:38 and Miranda Garland, who was 25th with a time of 36:42.

• On Sept. 21, Chester will host its second of four meets at the Randolph County Conservation Area. Schools are Christ Our Rock Lutheran, Christ Our Savior Lutheran, Columbia, Valmeyer, Red Bud and Chester. The first gun will fire at 4 p.m.
