Jerald Wayne Taylor, formerly of Harrisburg

Jerald (Jerry) Wayne Taylor, died Aug. 26,2020 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.

He was born in Harrisburg. His father was Mark Taylor and his mother was Callie (Prather) Taylor.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Charles Mark Taylor and Frank Norris Taylor.

He is survived by his children, Letitia Taylor Rhodes and her husband David of Maryland, Charles Mark Taylor and partner Tina Marie Addison of North Carolina and Leslie Ann Marcum and her husband Kelly of Ohio; one brother, Donald Lee Taylor of Massachusetts; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1954 to 1956.

He worked in the oil and gas industry for 30 years, being transferred several times, and ended up in Ohio. After that, he had various jobs and finally retired from Diebold in 2000, when he moved back to his hometown of Harrisburg.

He graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1953. He played various sports while attending high school, his favorite being basketball. When he was a senior, the basketball team won the South Seven State Championship on Feb. 27, 1953.

He also enjoyed playing golf and doing woodworking.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2020 at Coffey Cemetery in Harrisburg.
