Richard A. Bishop of Du Quoin
Richard A. Bishop, 80, of Du Quoin, passed away at 12:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020 at the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
Richard was a tipple operator for Arch Coal Mine. He was a member of the Sunfield Methodist Church. He was a United States Army veteran stationed in Korea. Richard was an avid gardener, lawn mower repairman, and he especially enjoyed his 20-plus pecan trees. He was a member of the UMWA.
Richard was born on June 19, 1940 at Cobden, Illinois, the son of Archie and Hazel (Biggs) Bishop.
He married Elsie L. Huite on June 4, 1960 at Du Quoin, and she survives.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie, of Du Quoin; one daughter, Barbie (Gene) Tolli of Phoenix, Arizona; one son, Rick (Amy) Bishop of Nashville, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Justin Ryan of Portland, Oregon, Amanda Bishop of Nashville, Tennessee and Emily Bishop of Arlington, Virginia; one sister, Jo Ann Kyes of Du Quoin; and two brothers, Charlie Bishop and Tom (Susan) Bishop, all of Du Quoin.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 4, 2020 at the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin, with Pastor Dave Trover officiating.
Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois plan allows up to 50 attendees at the graveside, all practicing social distancing and all wearing masks.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion and the Army National Guard.
Friends are invited to make memorials to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, which will be accepted at the funeral home.
