Local man gets four years for bringing meth into county jail
Troy L. Guynn, 43, of Anna has been sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections for the offense of possession of contraband in a penal institution.
On July 9, following his arrest on a Union County warrant, Guynn smuggled a small baggy containing methamphetamine into the Jackson County Jail. Three days later, Guynn ingested some of the drug in his cell, causing him to panic and call for assistance. Deputies recovered the remaining amount of methamphetamine.
On Aug. 12, Guynn pleaded guilty to one count of possession of contraband in a penal institution, a class 2 felony, and was sentenced to four years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, followed by a two-year period of mandatory supervised release.
Man sentenced for shooting at cop inside police station
Eric S. Brown, 37, of Carbondale has pleaded guilty to the charge of aggravated discharge of a firearm and has been sentenced to serve 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by a three-year period of mandatory supervised release.
On May 18, 2019, Eric S. Brown was in the custody of law enforcement at the Carbondale Police Department. While in the processing area, Brown took out a firearm that had been concealed in his waistband, pointed the firearm in the direction of a police officer and discharged the firearm. The police officer was not struck and did not sustain physical injury. After about three hours of negotiations, Brown surrendered the firearm. Video cameras in the processing area of the department captured the event.
