Walter E. Jackson of Du Quoin
Walter E. Jackson Sr., 90 years young, of Du Quoin, gained his Heavenly wings during the early morning hours on Aug. 11, 2020 at his home.
Walter worked for many years for the CTA in Chicago, and the Joliet and Chester prison systems. He returned to the Du Quoin area and was employed with Freeman Coal Mines, where he retired in 1992.
He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, playing bingo and he especially loved working in his garden. His surplus fruits and vegetables were often shared with his family, friends and neighbors.
Walter loved going out to eat, especially in his later years with his children.
He was born to the union of Jerome and Cecilia Jackson on June 11, 1930. His parents preceded him in death along with four siblings.
Walter met and married the love of his life, Marie Simpson, and she preceded him in death in 2005. They had three children, Lindell Jackson Slaughter, Walter "Bro" Jackson Jr. and Jerome "Jerry" Jackson, all of Du Quoin, who survive him.
Walter was a loving father to his children Lindell, Walter Jr. and Jerome; and a loving grandfather to Leslie Kittles of O'Fallon, Illinois, Leonard Slaughter of Denver, Colorado, Tameka (Nathan) Armstrong of Du Quoin, and Ashley (Richard) Aguirre of Murphysboro, Illinois; and a loving great-grandfather to Alex, Trevor, Anthony, Kierra, Makayla and Levi, all who survive him.
According to his wishes, cremation will be accorded and arrangements will be handled by the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
