Sheriff's Office releases July 4 enforcement numbers
The Jackson County Sheriff's Office issued 25 seat belt citations, one child restraint citation, 18 speeding citations, two distracted driving citations, and made one impaired driving arrest during the recent Fourth of July enforcement campaign.
Additional traffic citations included 18 uninsured vehicles, three tickets for no valid driver's license, one for fleeing to elude an officer, and six other miscellaneous traffic citations.
Deputies also made several criminal arrests, including for driving while license suspended/revoked, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal adult use cannabis (in vehicle/no original container), and an outstanding misdemeanor arrest warrant out of Franklin County.
These contacts were only those initiated by deputies assigned to this traffic safety campaign and are in addition to the routine calls and contacts made by deputies of the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.
The enforcement period was funded by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
