Next Veterans Honor Flight pushed to spring 2021
The next Veterans Honor Flight of Southern Illinois trip to Washington D.C. has been postponed to spring 2021, to further protect veterans from the coronavirus.
Nationally, the Honor Flight Network has imposed a travel ban through Dec. 31, 2020. But based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control, the Honor Flight Network, and federal and state governments, the Southern Illinois unit has decided to hold Flight 7 until either May or June.
All veterans and their guardians selected for Flight 7 will remain on the flight and no action on their part is necessary. Likewise, guardian selections remain unchanged.
Based on multiple factors, the board agrees this is the correct decision to provide the safest and absolute best flight for our veterans.
The board of directors of Veterans Honor Flight of Southern Illinois continues to work closely with the Honor Flight Network, their volunteers and their travel partners to ensure the best possible experience for the honored veterans.
Veterans Honor Flight is 100% donation funded. The board encourages everyone to check their website for fundraisers and events to help support the mission, saying that now more than ever, it relies on the community to keep the mission alive.
The board of directors continues to meet electronically and plan for the 2021 flights. Exact plans for Flight 7 will be announced at a later date.
