<b>City Hall will reopen to public on July 1</b>
Du Quoin City Hall will reopen up to the public on Wednesday, July 1 to resume business as usual, the city council decided earlier this week. Also, the council will resume holding meetings in person on July 13.
"It will be business as usual, but we'll follow the IDPH guidelines," Mayor Guy Alongi said. "If you want to wear a mask at the meeting you are more than welcome to." He added that city employees will decide for themselves whether to wear masks.
All four commissioners agreed to hold meetings in person again.
"I like seeing people and facing each other when we talk," said Commissioner Bob Karnes.
<b>Three new COVID-19 cases confirmed in Perry County</b>
The Perry County Health Department has been notified of three additional confirmed positive cases of COVID-19, the department said Wednesday. That brings the total number of cases in Perry County to 47, but the only active cases are the three just confirmed; 44 patients have recovered and been released from isolation. Perry County has had 0 coronavirus-related deaths and 1,094 negative test results.
<b>District 300 personnel hires</b>
The Du Quoin Unit District 300 school board has hired four people for the 2020-21 school year. They are:
Hannah Marek, a middle school special education teacher.
Casey Rose, a middle school physical education teacher.
The 21st Century summer program employees.
Bethany McPherson, as the freshman class sponsor.
