Randolph County has 12 active COVID-19 cases
The Randolph County Health Department reported Monday there are currently 12 active cases of COVID-19 in the county.
The county has had 292 confirmed cases, 273 of which have recovered and been released from isolation. The county has tested 3,764 individuals, of which 3,472 tested negative. Seven patients have died.
The county's positivity rate is 7.7%, still under the 10% threshold set by the Illinois Department of Public Health as the level of concern.
For privacy reasons, Randolph health officials do not identify the patients by gender or age, but they offer the ZIP codes of where the active cases are located: 62217 (Baldwin); 62233 (Chester); 62278 (Red Bud); 62297 (Walsh); 62280 (Rockwood) and 62286 (Sparta).
"Please be mindful that the virus is still prevalent in our area," said Randolph County Health Department Administrator Angela Oathout.
"Continue to follow the recommended guidelines and take additional precautions. Reconsider traveling to other areas where there is a high incidence of COVID-19. Today the CDC reported that the state of Florida has the highest number of new cases in the nation, exceeding 11,000 over the weekend."
Oathout encourages social distancing, wearing a mask when you cannot maintain a 6-foot space between yourself and others, washing hands often and using hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
Refrain from unnecessary physical contact such as shaking hands, she added.
According to the health department, people with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported, ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms like these may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus:
• Fever or chills
• Cough
• Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
• Fatigue
• Muscle or body aches
• Headache
• Recent loss of taste or smell
• Sore throat
• Congestion or runny nose
• Nausea or vomiting
• Diarrhea
