Martha Roznowski of Du Quoin

DU QUOIN - Martha Elnor Roznowski, 94, of Du Quoin, passed away at 2 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019 at her home.

She was born April 8, 1925 in Colchester, the daughter of Leonard Elting and Florence Alta (Williams) Lee. After graduating from high school in 1943, Martha moved to St. Louis to work in the World War II munitions industry.

She married Jerome Michael Roznowski of Du Quoin on April 2, 1945 in St. Louis. In 1946, Martha and Jerome moved to Du Quoin and spent the rest of their lives raising their seven children. He preceded her in death on March 2, 1987.

Martha will always be remembered for her kindness to all and for her dedication to the well-being of her family. She quietly instilled values, respect for others, and a strong work ethic in each of her children and was always ready to volunteer to help at church and school functions. She was loved by all and will be missed.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin, Parent Teacher Association, Red Hatters, and the Catholic Daughters of America.

She is survived by three sons, Tom (Janis) Roznowski of San Antonio, Texas, Mark Roznowski of Du Quoin and Charlie Roznowski of St. Peters, Missouri; one granddaughter, Jill VanZandt, of Du Quoin; one grandson, Captain Jeremy Roznowski of Ft. Benning, Georgia; three great-grandchildren, and one on the way.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; four children, Richard, Steve, Mary Ann and Terry; one granddaughter, Julena Roznowski; and one brother, Jack E. Lee.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin with Father Joseph Oganda officiating.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the time of service at the church.

Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the Catholic Daughters of America, which will be accepted at the funeral home.
