Arthur 'Tom' Barton of Harrisburg

Arthur "Tom" Barton, age 80, of Harrisburg, passed away at 1:40 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019 at Rosiclare Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Tom was born on Oct. 20, 1938, in Eldorado, to the late Lloyd and Myrtle (White) Barton. On Jan. 21, 1976 he married Bonnie Millis and she preceded him in death on Aug. 25, 2015.

Tom was a correctional lieutenant for the Illinois Department of Corrections from April 1980 until his retirement on April 2001. He was a member of Dorrisville Baptist Church. He loved to spend his summers at Lake of Egypt and winters in Florida. He also loved fishing and NASCAR.

Tom is survived his son, Carl Pickering and his wife Teresa of Harrisburg; son, Kevin Barton and his wife Beth of Harrisburg; daughters, Shawn and Laura of Florida; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Marian Thomas of Evansville, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Tom was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Carrie Pickering and Aaron Pickering and his brother, Marvin Barton.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019 at Reed Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Dwayne Taylor will officiate and burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Condolences may be left for the family at www.reedfuneralchapel.com.
