Dorrice Jean Lasseter Rose of Harrisburg
Dorrice Jean Lasseter Rose, 89, passed away Sept. 17 after a long illness.
She was born April 23, 1930 in Crab Orchard, to Dorothy Stella Corder and Hancle Calvin Lasseter of Eldorado. She considered her stepfather, Edward "Keno" Cooley, to be her dad. Dorrice graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1948 and married the love of her life, Robert E "Bob" Rose in 1949. They were the proud parents of Cindy, Robin, Martha and Sarah and were married almost 60 years when he passed away in 2008.
Dorrice was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Harrisburg from the time she and Bob were married. There she was a member of the Mother Thompson Circle and couples Sunday school class. She was an accomplished seamstress and will be remembered for teaching classes in sewing for the local Home Extension office, 4-H clubs and other organizations. She worked as a bookkeeper for several businesses in town, most memorably the former Ben Franklin Store in Harrisburg.
She was a 4-H Club leader, Brownie Scout leader, Cub Scout Den Mother, theatrical production director, costume designer and took on any other volunteer role needed to support her favorite mission - her children.
Dorrice loved her home and family. The Raymond Street neighborhood where she and Bob raised their family became synonymous with devoted parents and active children, living the dream of the 1950s and '60s together in an idyllic time and place. The large number of families in the tight-knit neighborhood became like an enormous extended family, molding and influencing the lives of all who lived there.
Dorrice was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Eugene Rose and her parents, Dorothy and Edward Cooley.
She is survived by her children, Cynthia (Cindy) and husband Larry Painter of Chuckey, Tennessee; Robert (Robin) and wife Teresa of Winchester, Kentucky; Martha and husband Wayne Head of Harrisburg; and Sarah and husband Christopher Adams of Leo, Indiana; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Dorrice Jean Lasseter Rose will begin at noon, Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church in Harrisburg. The Rev. Ron George will officiate and burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the service hour.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Harrisburg; envelopes are available at the church. Condolences may be left for the family on the obituary page at www.reedfuneralchapel.com.
