Paul 'Puge' Bishop of Du Quoin

DU QUOIN - Paul Edward "Puge" Bishop, 98, of Du Quoin, passed away at 9:14 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at his residence.

Puge worked as a tipple operator at Streamline Mine and Captain Mine. He was of the Protestant faith. Puge was a United States Army veteran. He was a member of the UMW of A Local 1392. He was an avid outdoorsman. He was a Du Quoin High School sports fan, especially girls fastpitch softball. He was an avid and lifelong Cubs fan. He loved to play rook, dominoes and pinochle. Puge loved to tell jokes. His children and grandchildren were very important to him.

He was born Jan. 4, 1921 in Du Quoin, the son of John and Emily (White) Bishop.

He married Violet Huggins on June 24, 1950 in Du Quoin, and she survives of Du Quoin.

Other survivors include two sons, John Bishop of Du Quoin and Scott (Cindy) Bishop of Long Beach, California; one daughter, Paula (David) Baty of Akron, Ohio; three grandchildren, Ashley (Jim) Townsend of Collinsville, Jordan (Whitney) Bishop of O'Fallon, and Nate Bishop of Long Beach, California; and two great grandchildren-Noelle Townsend and Renley Bishop.

Puge was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Hal Bishop and Howard Bishop; and two sisters, Flossie Hamilton and Mildred Bailey.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, July 22 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin, with Rev. Ted Clark officiating.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion and the Army National Guard.

Friends may make memorials to the Perry County Gold Plate or the Sunfield United Methodist Church, which are being accepted at the funeral home.
