William E. 'Bill' Hanna of Du Quoin
William E. "Bill" Hanna, 87, of Du Quoin, passed away at 6:05 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2019, at his residence.
Bill was a retired gas serviceman and tree trimmer for Ameren. He owned E&W Sporting Goods store for 13 years.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Du Quoin. Bill was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member of the Single Action Shooting Society (Cowboy Shooting), had been a member of the Du Quoin Fire Department for 40 years and served on the REACT for many years. He was a member of the Du Quoin VFW.
Bill loved his grandkids and great grandkids. He loved doing woodworking and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Bill was born April 21, 1932, at Alto Pass, Illinois, the son of Floyd Clifford and Georgia Agatha (Elliott) Hanna.
He married Eva Marie Parrish on March 31, 1953, at the United Methodist Church in Vergennes, and she survives.
Bill is survived by his wife of Du Quoin; two daughters, Belinda (David) Green of Chatham and Sandy (Fred) Gant of Du Quoin; four grandchildren, Ryan (Aimee) Green of Chatham, Matthew (Kayla) Green of Louisville, Kentucky, Cary (George) Bailey of Du Quoin and Will Higgerson (Beth Inman) of Pinckneyville; eight great-grandchildren, Cody Bailey, Chloe Bailey, Paxton Higgerson, Mallory Higgerson, Camden Green, Brody Green, James Inman and Brooke Inman; and one brother, Norman (Mae) Hanna of Hurst.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Floyd Dean Hanna.
Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin. The Rev. Gary Darnell will officiate.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Murdale Gardens of Memory in Murphysboro, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin VFW, Du Quoin American Legion and the Army National Guard.
Friends may make memorials to the First United Methodist Church of Du Quoin, which will be accepted at the funeral home.
