Kermit Don Ledford, of Glendale Heights
Kermit Don Ledford, 94, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 10, 2019 at Glen Oaks Hospital in Glendale Heights.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 18 at the Bolton-Trammel Cemetery in Stonefort. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Kermit was the father of Gordon D. Ledford and Steven Ledford and a loving grandfather of six grandchildren, Madelyn, Steven, Natalie, Justin, Allanna and Hailey Ledford.
Kermit was born in Culberson, North Carolina on Aug. 21, 1924 to Alvin Ledford and Delmar Ledford, the third of 11 children.
He was a decorated World War II veteran with a distinguished service record, serving in the Army as a sergeant and squad leader and receiving the American Theater Service Medal, EAME Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, and the World War II Victory Medal for his service.
Kermit was married to Virginia "Jean" Ledford of Stonefort. They were married in Chicago and remained married for almost 50 years until Virginia's death in 2003.
Kermit is survived by a sister, Vada Ledford Pinkerton, of Murphy, North Carolina, and two brothers, William Ledford, of Gastonia, North Carolina, and Johnny Ledford, of Copper Hill, Tennessee, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
"Dad" and "Grandpa" will be remembered by many as a hardworking man who helped others often. He will be missed.
