Evelyn Bechtlofft of Du Quoin

Evelyn J. Bechtlofft, 92, of Du Quoin, passed away at 2:45 a.m. on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at the Du Quoin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Evelyn was a cashier for GTE Telephone Company for 35 years. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin. Evelyn had been a member of a sorority. She was also a member of the Crab Orchard Kennel Club. She showed Toy Poodles, groomed and cared for poodles, and loved animals. Evelyn enjoyed dancing with her husband.

She was born Feb. 26, 1927 in Pinckneyville, the daughter of Walter and Jenny June (Burke) Dippel.

Evelyn married George E. Bechtlofft on June 19, 1954 in Du Quoin, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 2013.

She is survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Billy Dippel, and Thedell Dippel; and one sister, Ernestine Ethington.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 20 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin with Father Joseph Oganda officiating.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the church.

Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the Perry County Humane Society, which will be accepted at the funeral home.
