Donnie O. 'Bunny Bread' Brown of Harrisburg

Donnie O. "Bunny Bread" Brown, 83, of Harrisburg, passed away, Monday, June 10, 2019, at his residence.

Donnie was born in Eldorado on Oct. 15, 1935, to the late Claude and Ethel (Catlin) Brown.

He was a member of the Dorrisville Baptist Church in Harrisburg and was a union steward with the Teamsters International Union.

Donnie went to work out of high school for the Eldorado Locker Co. and was the senior bread man with Lewis Brothers Bakery, known as Bunny Bread.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and in his retirement he and his brothers they owned and oversaw the Saline Landing in Hardin County.

On April 23, 1955 he married Vernetta Rowena Barker and she preceded him in death on April 26, 2014.

Donnie is survived by his son, Donald Keith (Nina) Brown of Harrisburg; two daughters, Diedre (David) Rakestraw of Harrisburg and Radonna (Mike) Bolin of Harrisburg; six grandchildren, Lauren (Bill) Sanders, Cameron T. (Julie) Brown, Jared (Shauna) Wiman, Jacob (Ame) Wiman, Jessi (Michelle) Bolin and Matthew Bolin; and 10 great-grandchildren, Mattie Sanders, Meredith Sanders, Samuel Brown, Levi Bolin, Lucas Bolin, Juliet Bolin, Abel Michael Bolin, Kaitlyn Wiman, Kylie Wiman and Aydon Wiman.

He is also survived by two sisters, Laura (Ralph) Hausser of Frankfort and Linda (Larry) Young of Beecher; a brother, Otto Brown of Harrisburg; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, Dewey, Albert, Joel, C.A., Bob and Larry, and three sisters, Sybil Ursch, Betty Pruett and Carolyn Aldridge.

Funeral services for Donnie will begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, at Dorrisville Baptist Church in Harrisburg. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in his memory be made to the "Keenagers" of Dorrisville Church or to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available.
