David Randolph Reeves of Harrisburg

David Randolph Reeves, age 77, a resident of Harrisburg, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at his residence.

David was born June 12, 1941 in Eldorado to the late Charles David Reeves and Vivian Afton (Randolph) Reeves.

David married Patricia Lee Johnson on Dec. 16, 1962, and she preceded him in death in November of 1996.

David was a music educator for Harrisburg High School for 30-plus years and an organist for many different local churches.

David was a member of Buena Vista Community Church, Mu Alpha Theta of Southern Illinois University Carbondale and served as a director in Illinois Music Education Association District Festivals.

He loved musical theater, reading sci-fi, enjoyed camping, traveling and hanging out with his grandkids.

He was selfless and was loved by all.

David is survived by his two daughters, Kathryn E. Reeves-McCloskey and husband Darin of West Chester, Pennsylvania and Deborah Afton Way of Homewood; six grandchildren, Matthew Allen Black of Homewood, Elijah William Way of Homewood, Ava Reeves-Atkinson of Harrisburg, Vivian Patrice Reeves of Harrisburg, Nolan Ransom Way of Homewood, and Vincent Ray Carney of Harrisburg; four great-grandchildren, Jeron, Hayden, Presley and Lydia Atkinson of Harrisburg; one brother, Robert and wife Beverly Reeves of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.

Services for David will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2019, at Harrisburg High School Davenport Gym with the Rev. John Winters officiating.

Burial will be at Lindale Cemetery in Eldorado. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Harrisburg High School Davenport Gym. Those who wish may sing in an impromptu alumni choir at his service.
