Michael John Chandonait, formerly of Marion

Michael John Chandonait, 70, of Jackson, Missouri and formerly of Marion, passed away Friday, March 1, 2019 at home.

He was born Nov. 7, 1948 in Newton, Massachusetts to Henry John and Barbara Virginia Hayden Chandonait.

Michael married Eleanor Parsons on Aug. 22, 1976. She survives.

Michael was a 1966 graduate of Lincoln Sudbury High School in Sudbury, Massachusetts. In 1968, he entered the U.S. Army, serving in Germany, and in 1970, was honorably discharged at the rank of sergeant. Michael and Eleanor moved to Marion in 1976 and have lived in Jackson since 2013.

He enjoyed listening to opera and playing golf at Crab Orchard Golf Course in Carterville as much as possible. Michael accepted Christ as his personal savior in 2001 while a member of Pittsburg Free Will Baptist Church. He was most recently attending Lynwood Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.

Loving survivors include his wife, Eleanor, of 42 years, who lives in Jackson; two daughters, Heather (Mark) Mayhew and Catherine (Marcus) Francis all of Jackson; one son, Christopher (Patty) Chandonait of Dighton, Massachusetts; and eight grandchildren, Mason John, Marlee, Maksim and Maeryn Mayhew, Genevieve, Skylar and Samara Francis and Jonathan Chandonait.

Also surviving are four siblings, Peter (Christy) Chandonait of Annapolis, Maryland, Cindy (Verell) Boaen of Groton, Massachusetts, Ann (Ed) Celino of Nashua, New Hampshire and Adrienne (Mike) McCarthy of Billerica, Massachusetts.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until service time on Saturday, March 16 at Lynwood Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.

The celebration of life service will begin at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Mark Anderson officiating.
