Helen Louise Newman of Eldorado
Helen Louise Newman, 94, went to be with her Lord on March 4, 2019. She had been ill for some time and she passed in her own home with her family near her, just the way she wanted.
She was born Helen Louise Coomes, the second daughter of Towns Coomes and Bessie (Cummins) Coomes born on March 19, 1924, at Rocky Branch.
She attended The Eldorado Church of Christ, now the Christian Church, and was one of the longest-standing members.
She married Dewey Lawrence Barton on April 12, 1941, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. They had three children, Gary Lawrence, Delman Earl and Rebecca Ann. Dewey was killed in a rock fall at a coal mine near Pankeyville on Feb. 27, 1947.
On December 16, 1951, she married Morry A. Newman. They had four children, Monte Dean, Kevin Jay, David Lee and Wesley Denton.
Helen was preceded in death by Morry, her brothers Glen and Chrisman and three sisters, Mattie Williams, Gladys Barton and Katherine Lane; and her son Delman Barton.
Surviving are her children; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Helen will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2019, at the Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado. Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials may be made in her memory to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
