Dorthea 'Dottie' Holmes of Benton
Dorthea "Dottie" Faye Holmes, 72, of Benton, passed away at 2:20 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5 at BJC Siteman Center in St. Louis.
Dorthea was born on Aug. 5, 1946 in Blytheville, Arkansas, the daughter of Paul and Mary Eberin Holland.
She had many names to all who loved her. She was Dodie, Dot, Dottie, DF, MoMo, Mama Deet, and most importantly Mom. She loved to cook and put a smile on everyone's face. If she had a house full of people to cook for, she was one happy lady. She was a homemaker, a baker, and an Avon lady. She loved to be loved. She was also a member of the Sunfield United Methodist Church.
Dorthea married James Daniel Holmes on June 29, 1985 at the Sunfield Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of Benton; five sons, John (Misty) Kearbey of Du Quoin, Lance (Ivonne) Kearbey of Gallatin, Tennessee, Jarrod Kearbey (partner Jon McAtee) of Marion, Clint (Lea) Kearbey of Maryville, and Jason (Megan) Holmes of Christopher; two daughters, Amanda Holmes (partner Alan Mydler) of Tamaroa and Julie (Keith) Littlefair of Benton; eight grandchildren, Coleton Kearbey of Du Quoin, Erica Kearbey of Gallatin, TN, Megan Kearbey (partner Hector Gonzalez) of Gallatin, TN, Kaya Sloman and Avery Kearbey of Chatham, Jimmy Nease and Delilah Holmes of Christopher, and Silas Littlefair of Benton; and two great-grandchildren, Olive and Kamden Gonzalez of Gallatin, TN.
Dorthea was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Paula Ann Arceneaux.
Funeral services will begin at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 9 at the Sunfield United Methodist Church in Sunfield, with the Rev. Bill Wiggs officiating.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 8, at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin and from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the church.
Burial will be at the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to the Sunfield United Methodist Church Building Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
